Candle Safety FAQ

General Safety

Are scented candles safe to use indoors?

Yes—when made with high‑quality natural waxes (coconut/soy), clean fragrances or essential oils, and cotton wicks. Magic in Mohmaya candles are formulated to burn cleanly and are routinely tested for quality.

How long can I safely burn a candle?

  • Burn for 2–4 hours per session.
  • Let the vessel cool for at least 2 hours before relighting.
  • Stop use when 10–12 mm (about 1/2 inch) of wax remains.

Can I leave a burning candle unattended?

No. Never leave a candle unattended or near anything that can catch fire. Extinguish before sleeping or leaving the room.

Proper Candle Care

Why should I trim the wick?

  • Trim to 6 mm (1/4 inch) before every burn.
  • Prevents soot, smoking, and mushrooming.
  • Promotes an even, longer‑lasting burn.

What is tunneling and how do I prevent it?

Tunneling happens when only the center melts. Prevent it by allowing the first burn to create a full melt pool edge‑to‑edge (usually 2–3 hours).

How should I store my candles?

  • Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat.
  • Store with lid on to protect from dust and preserve scent.

Health and Air Quality

Are your candles suitable for people with sensitivities?

Our coconut‑soy blend and clean fragrance formulations are designed for low soot and minimal irritants. If you have specific allergies, review the ingredients and test in a well‑ventilated space.

Can I use candles around children and pets?

  • Keep out of reach and place on a stable, heat‑resistant surface.
  • Never burn unattended in rooms with unsupervised children or pets.
  • Consider protective accessories (e.g., hurricanes) to reduce draft and contact.

What about indoor air quality?

Our candles are formulated for clean burning when used as directed. Burn in ventilated spaces and avoid drafts that cause flicker or soot.

Fire Safety

Where should I place my candle?

  • Keep away from drafts, vents, and flammable items (curtains, paper, decor).
  • Ensure at least 30 cm (12 inches) clearance above the flame.

What should I do if the flame is too high?

Extinguish, let cool completely, trim wick to 6 mm, and relight away from drafts.

How do I safely extinguish a candle?

  • Use a snuffer or dip the wick into melted wax and straighten.
  • Avoid blowing to prevent splatter and smoke.
  • Never use water to extinguish.
